Some Open Points in Nonextensive Statistical mechanics

چکیده
Statistical mechanics is one of the pillars of contemporary physics. Indeed, it provides in principle the link between the microscopic and the macroscopic description and understanding of the world through a rich variety of mesoscopic instances. More precisely, starting from mechanics (classical, quantum, relativistic) and electromagnetism, it incorporates appropriate concepts of the theory of probabilities, and finally leads, for large enough systems, to thermodynamics. It does so through various intermediate descriptions such as those involving master, Langevin, and Fokker-Planck equations. See Fig. 1 for a schematic set of connections. The statistical mechanical approach of physical phenomena was first introduced by Maxwell, Boltzmann and Gibbs. A crucial step was done by Boltzmann who proposed a specific functional form for the thermodynamic entropy (that had been introduced a few years earlier by Clausius) in terms of the probabilities of the microscopic configurations. Its expression for say a system describable through a discrete set of probabilities {pi} of W possibilities is given by

How the Nonextensivity Parameter Affects Energy Fluctuations
In this article, the effect of the nonextensivity parameter on the energy fluctuations of nonextensive systems is studied in two different versions of the Tsallis statistical mechanics. Once a general expression has been reported for the energy fluctuations in the second version (Tsallis work in 1988), the energy fluctuations of an ideal gas and a harmonic oscillator are studied in the second a...
متن کاملNonextensive Statistics: Theoretical, Experimental and Computational Evidences and Connections
The domain of validity of standard thermodynamics and Boltzmann-Gibbs statistical mechanics is discussed and then formally enlarged in order to hopefully cover a variety of anomalous systems. The generalization concerns nonextensive systems, where nonextensivity is understood in the thermody-namical sense. This generalization was first proposed in 1988 inspired by the probabilistic description ...
متن کاملMixing and equilibration: Protagonists in the scene of nonextensive statistical mechanics
After a brief review of the present status of nonextensive statistical mechanics, we present a conjectural scenario where mixing (characterized by the entropic index qmix ≤ 1) and equilibration (characterized by the entropic index qeq ≥ 1) play central and inter-related roles, and appear to determine a priori the values of the relevant indices of the formalism. Boltzmann-Gibbs statistical mecha...
متن کاملGeneralized statistical mechanics and fully developed turbulence
The statistical properties of fully developed hydrodynamic turbulence can be successfully described using methods from nonextensive statistical mechanics. The predicted probability densities and scaling exponents precisely coincide with what is measured in various turbulence experiments. As a dynamical basis for nonextensive behaviour we consider nonlinear Langevin equations with fluctuating fr...
متن کاملNonextensive statistical mechanics for hybrid learning of neural networks
This paper introduces a new hybrid approach for learning systems that builds on the theory of nonextensive statistical mechanics. The proposed learning scheme uses only the sign of the gradient, and combines adaptive stepsize local searches with global search steps that make use of an annealing schedule inspired from nonextensive statistics, as proposed by Tsallis. The performance of the hybrid...
